We Need Your Help!

Thank you for your interest in helping at the Community Center! For a brochure about volunteer opportunities, please click HERE. And our complete volunteer guide is available HERE!

However, because of the large numbers of volunteers who want to help, it is VERY important that you email or call ahead before volunteering so that we can be sure that we are able to accommodate you or your group! We regret that we never have openings for unscheduled volunteers so PLEASE get a confirmation at least one week in advance.

If you want to learn more about volunteering at the Community Center, you can watch this interview with a recent volunteer who shares his experiences working with hurricane survivors here in St Bernard:

Children are welcome to help with most volunteer activities as long as they have a parent or guardian present with them at all times. Please note that these are only volunteer listings; the Community Center is unable to provide housing or transportation. For those using public transport, we are located 3 blocks east of the Aycock Street terminus of the #88 St Claude bus. For assistance with housing for non-local volunteers, we would suggest trying the New Orleans craigslist.

We look forward to meeting you if you come to the New Orleans area, and we thank you for your generosity and kindness in giving your time to help with the recovery effort here. And remember, if you do volunteer at the Community Center, we'd love to hear your comments and feedback. Just go to http://www.greatnonprofits.org/reviews/write/374533 and tell us about your experience here in "da Parish"!

Food Pantry and Clothing Bank Programs

We have a need for volunteers to help with the Mustard Seed Distribution every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Volunteers stock the shelves in the food pantry, assist food pantry clients with the checkout process (very much like a supermarket checkout), and also help carry food out to clients' cars. Individuals and groups of up to 5 members are welcome. The distribution takes place from 11 AM - 3 PM, but if volunteers could arrive as early as hour 9 AM to help with setup, that would be ideal. We also need volunteers who we could call on an as-needed basis when shipments of donated goods arrive, or for other one-time events.

The Mustard Seed Clothing Distribution is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM - 3 PM, and volunteers are needed to help sort and fold donations, and to tidy the area.

On the 3rd Friday of every month we need up to 6 volunteers to assist with the USDA "Food for Seniors" commodities distribution which provides a box of food (protein, dairy, fruits, vegetables) to low-income senior citizens. These boxes can weigh as much as 40 lbs, so volunteers should be comfortable with lifting moderately heavy items. The "Food for Seniors" distribution runs from 10 AM to 4 PM, but volunteers do not need to stay for the entire event. Anyone who wants to help with this event should phone 504.281.2512 to register.

Volunteers are also sometimes needed to help organize books and magazines in the Community Center's Reading Area, and do general sweeping, mopping and cleaning to keep the Center clean and welcoming for clients.

Bookkeeper or Accountant

We need a volunteer with bookkeeping or accounting experience to help set up and maintain our financial records. This position will require about 2 hrs per week maintenance once the system is set up, and would be ideal for an accounting student or retiree. If interested, please phone CCSTB Director Iray Nabatoff at 504- 281-2512.

Volunteer Help Needed for Google AdWords Account

The Community Center of St Bernard is looking for a volunteer with experience in sales and marketing to administer our Google AdWords account. This would be an excellent opportunity for a retiree or a business student who would like to work from their home. If interested, please phone the Community Center at 504-281-2512.

Thank You to Our Volunteers!
